Age of US Presidents
The median age upon accession to the presidency is 55 years and 355 days. This falls midway between how old Grover Cleveland and Richard Nixon were at the time each was sworn in as president: 55 years, 351 days (in 1893) and 56 years, 11 days (in 1969) respectively.
The youngest person to assume the presidency was Theodore Roosevelt, who, at the age of 42 years, 322 days, succeeded to the office after the assassination of William McKinley. The youngest to become president by-election was John F. Kennedy, who was 43 years, 236 days, at his inauguration. The oldest person to assume the presidency was Joe Biden, at the age of 78 years, 61 days, on Inauguration Day.
